Baseball Heads to NJIT for America East Series

The UMBC Baseball team will play its first America East road series of the season as it travels to NJIT for a big three-game set. All three games will be at 11 a.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, N.J.

The Retrievers will start Logan Wiley, Brady Fox and Zach Robinson.

Last time out, UMBC rallied from an early 7-0 deficit and then held on late to defeat visiting Delaware State on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

A day after setting a new a NCAA record by getting hit by a pitch 12 times, the Retrievers drew nine, with Luke Buscaglia getting hit three times and Jesiah Carpenter getting plunked twice. The Dawgs also stole seven bases, led by Matthew Best's three.

Sam Bell was stellar in relief, working 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out five, walking one and allowing just win hit to pick up his first career victory and keep UMBC in the game. Chris Ho worked a career-high 3.0 innings, allowing just an unearned run before Ethan Ianni got out of a jam in the ninth to secure his first career save.

Kyle Eddington led the way on offense, going 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Leewood Molessa went 1-for-2 with three RBI and three walks. Carpenter, Buscaglia, Danny Wyatt and Danny Orr also drove in runs for UMBC. Best and Nico Ong each scored three runs as well. 

Scouting the Highlanders:

Early offense led the way for NJIT as it jumped out to an early advantage in a 4-1 win over Saint Peter's on Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Highlanders pushed two runs across in the bottom of the first and added runs in the second and third to stake their lead.
