RETRIEVER TIP-OFFÂ Â Â Â
- The Retrievers are beginning their 58th season as well as their 40th season of D1 hoops in Baltimore.
- UMBC has a record of 674-952 (.414) all-time.
- The Retrievers are 477-679 (.412) at the DI level
- UMBC was selected to finish seventh in the America East Preseason Poll.
- Graduate student Josh Odunowo was named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team after averaging 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last season.
- The Retrievers have nine new faces in 2025-26.
 LAST TIME OUT
- The undermanned UMBC men's basketball team held a second-half lead against the Dayton Flyers late in the game but ultimately lost by a score of 77-71 in front of a sellout crowd of 13,407 fans at UD Arena on Saturday afternoon.
- Junior center Jose Roberto Tanchyn led five Retrievers in double figures with 16 points and also contributed a team-high six rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.
- Â Tanchyn made all four of his attempts from behind the arc and finished 6-for-7 from the floor overall. DJ Armstrong Jr. added 15 points, while Jah'Likai King scored 14, Ace Valentine contributed 12 points, and Daylon Dickerson rounded out the scoring with another solid performance.
- Â UMBC (1-1) trailed 41-37 at halftime but outscored Dayton 12-3 in the first 3:46 of the second half to take a 49-44 lead.
- Â The Retrievers achieved their largest lead of the game at 52-46 after Armstrong hit a transition 3-pointer from the left wing with 14:48 remaining.
- Â UMBC maintained a 57-52 lead after a layup by Tanchyn with 11:59 left, but Dayton responded with seven consecutive points to gain a 59-57 advantage with 10:17 remaining.
- Â The score was tied for the last time at 59-59 after Armstrong converted a pair of free throws with 8:18 left.
- Trailing 64-59, Valentine made a difficult three-pointer from the right corner, bringing UMBC within 64-62 at the 6:25 mark. However, Dayton extended their lead to 69-62 with the next five points scored.
- The Retrievers made a final push to stay in the game, as King made two free throws, and Armstrong Jr. hit a three-pointer to narrow the gap to 73-71 with just 1:04 left.
- Despite the spurt, Dayton secured two offensive rebounds, and guard Javon Bennett made two free throws after being fouled, putting Dayton up by four points with 22 seconds remaining.
- UMBC missed a three-pointer in the closing seconds, and Dayton capped the game with two more free throws.
- The Retrievers played without their starting forwards, Josh Odunowo and Caden Diggs.

ABOUT MORGAN ST.
- Morgan State earned its first win of the 2025-26 season with a dominant 101-77 victory over Central Pennsylvania College in the team's home opener Thursday night at Hill Field House.
- Rob Lawson, who posted 20 points in Morgan's season opener at Georgetown, came off the bench to lead the Bears again with a team-high 20 points, along with five assists and two rebounds. He was perfect at the stripe, going 4-for-4. Alfred Worrell Jr. added 18 points in 17 minutes of action and shot 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

SERIES HISTORY (MORGAN STATE)
- The series is tied at 15-15.
- The first game between the two squads took place during the 1970-71 season as Morgan State took two contests from the Retrievers that season.
- This is the fourth straight year that the two squads have met with the Dawgs winning two of the last three contests. Last season, UMBC came through with a 92-69 triumph at the Peake. Marcus Banks Jr. scored a team-high 14 points and UMBC hit 14-of-26 treys (53.8 percent).

A PROGRAM ON THR RISE
- UMBC is enjoying their best stretch in program history as the Retrievers have gone a combined 164-153 (.517) over the past ten seasons. They are 83-78 (516) in AE Play.
- UMBC enjoyed three straight 20+ win seasons from 2016-17 to 2018-19. Their 25 victories in 2017-18 was a program-high.
- UMBC became the first #16 seed to knock off a #1 seed when the Retrievers shocked Virginia, 74-54, in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
- Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena (formerly the UMBC Event Center) officially opened on Feb. 3, 2018, as the UMBC men's basketball team hosted the Vermont Catamounts before a capacity crowd of 4,753. Both the men's and women's basketball teams played their February and March games in the new facility, which included three post-season victories.
- The on-campus facility can accommodate nearly 6,000 patrons for commencements, concerts, featured speakers, and other events. It includes spectator facilities, such as concessions, catering, hospitality, restrooms, security and guest services.

COACH FERRY
- Jim Ferry is in his 26th season as a collegiate head coach and his fifth at UMBC.
- Ferry own a 61-69 record in Baltimore,
- Ferry led the Retrievers to consecutive 18-14 records as well as an appearance in the America East Finals in 2021-22.
- Prior to his arrival in Baltimore, Ferry served in 2020-21 as the interim head coach at Penn State. He led the Nittany Lions to an 11-14 overall mark and a
- 7-12 Big Ten record that included wins over NCAA Tournament
- teams No. 14 Wisconsin, No. 15 Virginia Tech , Rutgers, and Maryland (twice).
- Ferry spent 10 seasons as head coach at LIU Brooklyn, guiding the program to unprecedented levels of success. He led the Blackbirds to the Northeast Conference regular-season titles and tournament championships in 2011 and 2012, including their first NCAA Championship appearance in 14 years.
