Dawg Bytes
  • UMBC had their three-game unbeaten streak stopped by the Mercyhurst Lakers as the Retrievers fell by a score of 3-0 on Thursday afternoon at Saxon Stadium.
  • The entire momentum of the game changed in the 4th minute when UMBC (4-5-1) had a golden opportunity to take an early lead. Senior striker Izzy Binko sent a perfect through ball down the left side for graduate student forward Meghan McKye, who broke past the back line and had a one-on-one opportunity against Lakers' goalie Kate Constantini (four saves). McKye tried to put the ball into the upper left corner of the net, but the senior managed to get a hand on the attempt to deny the visitors.
  • Mercyhurst (2-7-2) scored the only goal they would need with 17:50 left in the opening half as they struck on a free kick that originated at the center of the top of the box. Sophomore forward Madison Sievering was credited with the assist after putting the ball over the Retriever's back line, and graduate student forward Emily Mijares tapped a shot into the lower left side of the goal past starting keeper Abbey Cowles (1-5-1).
  • The hosts increased their lead to 2-0 just 4:22 into the second half on a misplay between senior defender Alyssa Clearfield and reserve freshman keeper Amara Codd. Junior midfielder Anna Clark sent an over-the-top pass from her 35-yard line for Sievering, who took the ball away from Clearfield. Codd raced all the way out past the 20-yard line and fell to the ground, leaving Sievering all by herself with an open net, and she tapped it in for an easy score.
  • The Lakers put the game out of reach with 4:36 remaining on a goal by Mia Maruna, assisted by Annabel Arhin.
  • The Retrievers held a 12-7 advantage in shots and attempted six of the eight corner kicks in the contest.
  • Cowles and Codd were not credited with a save.

 About UMass Lowell
  • The River Hawks' last contest was home versus Dartmouth, resulting in a 2-1 setback. This was UMass Lowell's final non-conference match of the season. Graduate student Calliste Brookshire recorded her first goal of the season created from a free kick. Brookshire tallied three shots, with sophomore Luka Marceau following with two of her own. The River Hawks facilitated the ball well, especially in the first half.
  • Freshman Gaby Eckroth  is the offensive threat for the River Hawks with four points on two goals. Brookshire cracked into the scoring bracket last contest to now trail Eckroth with three points, produced by a goal and an assist, along with leading the squad with 13 shots. Senior Laura Cetina has earned two points this season, with 11 total shots.
