PLAYOFF PICTURE
- Five America East teams, including UMBC, are vying for three remaining playoff spots on Saturday, the final day of the regular season. UAlbany is the only team that has clinched a berth with a 5-1 record. Check out all of the possible scenarios.
RETRIEVER RECAP
- Senior Jayson Tingue tied a career-high with 15 saves, and classmate Mike Doughty tallied three goals and an assist as the UMBC Men's Lacrosse team cruised to a 13-6 win over NJIT on Senior Day.
- The Retrievers out-shot the visitors 55-33, won the ground ball battle 33-27, and forced 13 turnovers.
- Brian Tregoning had two goals, and eight other Retrievers scored a goal. Tingue had six ground balls, classmate Ben Stephanos had four, and two caused turnovers.
DAWG BITES
- Doughty has produced multiple-assist games in eight of UMBC's 10 outings and is ranked 3rd nationally and first in the AE with 3.20 assists per game. Doughty hit the 100-point mark (45-69-114, 32nd program history) and became UMBC's first player to reach 50 helpers since Max Maxwell (66 career assists) achieved the mark in 2016. Doughty is first in the league and 23rd nationally, with 4.33 points per game. He needs four more helpers to move into UMBC's all-time Top-10 list in the category.
- Senior attacker Brian Tregoning is third in the America East with 3.60 points per game and third on the circuit with 2.70 goals per game. He recently had back-to-back eight-point efforts against Merrimack and UAlbany. Tregoning is 23rd in the nation in goals per game.
- Senior face-off specialist Zach Dudley, who is sixth in the league with a .509 face-off percentage, became the sixth Retriever to reach the 300-win plateau earlier this season and has compiled 377 career draws. He's also seventh on the circuit with 5.56 ground balls per game and is 33rd in the country.
- Tingue is second in the AE in goals against average (11.21), and his 10.20 career goals against average rank seventh among all active NCAA goalies. He was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season.
- UMBC is 10th in the NCAA, with 8.20 assists per game.
A LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS
- Vermont has won two straight games to put themselves in a position to qualify for the America East Tournament.
- The Catamounts cruised to an 18-9 victory at UMass Lowell on Saturday. Tristan Whitaker scored a game-high four goals off the bench, while Brock Haley and Luke Reiter had two goals and three assists.
- Charlie Pope is second in the league with 2.77 goals per game and is eighth with 3.31 points per game.
- Whitaker is 10th in goals per game (2.09) and 15th in points per game (2.91).
- Henry Dodge is fourth in the AE with a .559 face-off percentage and is fifth in ground balls per game (5.92).
SERIES NOTES
- UMBC is 14-7 all-time in the series and is 6-4 in Burlington.
- The defending AE champion Catamounts have won three straight games against the Dawgs, including an 11-7 triumph last season in Baltimore. Vermont led 5-4 at halftime but outscored the hosts by a 4-0 count in the third quarter to put the game away.
