Last time out,
Nico Ong scored from third on an error in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the UMBC Baseball team a thrilling come-from-behind, 4-3, win against visiting Towson on Tuesday night at Alumni Field.
Ong was able to score when
Matthew Best hit a grounder to third with the bases loaded and no outs. The ball took a big hop, as the third baseman had to jump for it, and his throw home to get Ong sailed high.
UMBC received stellar performances from the pitching staff, as six pitchers combined to allow no earned runs in eleven innings of work.
Sam Daniels picked up the win, and improved to 3-2 on the season, after working a perfect top of the 11th, while
Sam Bell,
Matt Cunningham,
Evan Selmer and
Ben Craig all made scoreless appearances out of the bullpen.
Joe Pucek got his second start of the season and didn't allow an earned run, while striking out two, in four innings of work.
Ong went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored to lead the offense, while
Danny Wyatt was the lone other Retriever with a multi-hit game.
Kyle Eddington and
Dawson Baracani each drove in runs for UMBC, who rallied from a 3-0 second inning deficit.
