Baseball Set to Host UAlbany this Weekend

The UMBC Baseball team looks to build momentum off its massive win over defending Big Ten champion Maryland, when it hosts America East rival UAlbany beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.

Projected Rotations:

Friday: Luke Johnson (1-3, 4.21 ERA) vs. Cregg Scherrer (0-0, 7.94 ERA)
Saturday: Jayden Shertel (1-4, 3.48 ERA) vs. Matthew Mariano (1-2, 13.50 ERA)
Sunday: Logan Wiley (3-2, 3.72 ERA) vs. TBD

Last time out,  Luke Trythall and Matthew Best each drove in a pair of runs as the UMBC Baseball team defeated defending Big Ten champion Maryland, 4-2, on Wednesday night at Alumni Field.

Maryland entered the contest averaging 6.9 runs per game, but seven UMBC pitchers combined to hold the high-powered Terrapin offense to its second lowest output of the season.

Ben Craig worked two innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season, while Sam Downs retired the final four batters of the game to pick up his first career save. Eddie Sargent started on the mound and worked three perfect innings, and Sam Daniels, Nick Remy and Logan Wiley all had scoreless relief outings.

The victory snapped a 16-game losing streak to Maryland dating back to 2005, and was UMBC's first win at home against Maryland since 1995

UAlbany dropped a pair of seven-inning contests, 9-5 and 7-6 (8), on Tuesday at Marist. In game one, Ryan Ferremi reached base four times with a double and three walks. Luke Filippi led the team in RBIs with two, and the Great Danes swiped four bases.

In game two Anthony Scarabino led the way at the plate with a three-hit performance, including a triple, and scoring twice. Luke Filippi tallied a pair of RBIs, and Cooper Loyal recorded two hits, his third multi-hit game of the season.
