ABOUT THE RETRIEVERS
  • UMBC opened the 2024 season against national power Santa Clara this past weekend in California.
  • The Retrievers dropped all three contests despite holding leads in each game.
  • Sunday's decision was a heartbreaker as the hosts hit a walk-off grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the ninth for a 10-9 victory.
  • Sophomore first baseman Leewood Molessa went 4-for-11 with two doubles and a pair of RBI in the series.
  • Senior second baseman Anthony Swenda finished 4-for-12 with a homer and two RBI.
  • Sophomore catcher Derek Paris went 3-for-8 and drew four walks for a team-high .615 on base percentage.

  • GW took 2-of-3 contests this past weekend against Bryant in Arlington, Virginia. 
  • The Revolutionaries dropped the opener, 13-10, but won 12-4 on Saturday and followed up with a 16-3 triumph on Sunday.
  • GW was swept in a three-game series at Old Dominion to open the season.
  • Ellis Schwartz is off to a fast start as the graduate student outfielder is batting a team-high .421 with six runs driven in.
  • Junior outfielder Sam Gates leads the squad with two homers, eight RBI and 18 total bases.
  • Left hander Teddy Brennan is off to a solid start on the bump as the junior is 1-1 with a 3.37 ERA in two starts. He's fanned 13 batters in 10.2 innings of work.
  • Senior right hander Benny Wilson has a save and has not allowed a run in 5.2 innings out of the bullpen.
