STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The UMBC women's track and field team kicked off its indoor season by competing in the St. John's University Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y.
The 4x400 relay took second place in 3:52.01 to highlight the day. Sophomore
Genelle Stephens, senior Anna Creel, junior
Shannel Sibblies, and junior
Leanne McDonald were members of the squad.
Junior thrower
Marie Abongwa was the runner-up in the shot put (12.90 meters) and finished fourth in the weight throw (16.14 meters)
Senior
Chia Nwankwo placed fifth in the finals of the shot put with an effort of 12.13 meters.
UMBC had a good performance in the 60-meter dash as sophomore
Charliana Dacosta placed 4
th in 7.78 while senior
Za'Kayza Parsons was 5
th in 7.80.
The Retrievers placed three finishers in the finals of the 300 meters led by Creel's 39.81 performance. Stephens was sixth in 40.18 and sophomore
Dalyce Schmidt finished tenth in 41.06.
Parsons also finished sixth in the long jump with an effort of 5.42 meters and senior Janine Amefia was ninth (5.07 m). Amefia also took eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.24 meters and senior Morgan Sizer placed ninth (11.09m).
