Men's Soccer Hits the Road to Face Hofstra on Tuesday Evening

The Pride have won back-to-back CAA titles.

BALTIMORE –UMBC (3-0-1) has only played 26 minutes of soccer since Sept. 3 as they hit the road for the second time this season, taking on the Hofstra Pride (3-1-1) at Hofstra Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
 
The opening kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and the broadcast is available on FloSports ($).
 
BREAKING NEWS
 
  • The non-conference men's soccer match between UMBC and Fordham was halted in the 26' as a severe thunderstorm watch, accompanied by multiple lightning strikes were seen in the skies in the immediate area of Retriever Soccer Park on Friday, Sept. 8. The game was declared a no contest. 
  • UMBC won the UMBC-Navy Classic with a pair of shutout victories over Labor Day weekend. They blanked Liberty, 3-0, on Sept. 1, then got past Howard, 2-0 on Sept. 3.
  • Forwards Alek Wroblewski and Loc San scored in a ten-minute span midway through the second half and the UMBC defense limited HU to six shots.  Junior midfielder Ty Stroud earned assists on both goals.
  • San, who scored a goal in each game, earned Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Wroblewski, seniors Taylor Calhiera (1g, 1a vs Liberty) and Will Forby (1g vs. Liberty) and sophomore defender Lasse Kelp also made the All-Tournament Team. 
  • Calheira leads the team with four goals and one assist through four games. He is tied for eighth in the nation in goals per game and now has 26 in his career.
  • The Retrievers were ranked No. 3 in the Northeast Region (United Soccer Coaches, games through Sept. 5), behind America East rivals Vermont and New Hampshire.
  • The Retrievers are tied for tenth nationally with 2.50 goals per game in the early going. They have scored at least one goal in 12 consecutive games, dating back to 2022.
 
A GLANCE AT THE PRIDE         
  • Defending CAA champion Hofstra is 3-1-1 and is unbeaten in its last three matches (2-0-1).
  • After a four-goal explosion in a 4-2 win at Providence on Sept. 1, HU defeated Penn, 1-0 and just drew versus Stony Brook, 1-1, in the CAA opener on Sept. 9.
  • Senior forward Ryan Carmichael leads the Pride with three goals and two assists, including a strike in the 19' in the draw versus the Seawolves.
  • The defense has been strong in front of senior goalkeeper Wessel Speel, who has a pair of shutouts and only faced less than 11 shots per game. 

THE ALL-TIME SERIES
  • This will be the fourth meeting between UMBC and Hofstra with the Pride leading the series, 3-1-0.
  • The most recent match-up occurred in 2019 with the visiting Pride earning a 1-0 win at Retriever Soccer Park.
  • This is just UMBC's second visit to Hofstra' they lost in the series debut, 2-1, in 1990, before earning their lone win, 5-1, at UMBC Stadium the following year.
