BALTIMORE - UMBC men's soccer returns to action on Saturday evening in Bethlehem, Pa. as they continue non-conference play against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at 6 p.m.
The Retrievers enter the weekend with a 2-1 record, earning victories over Loyola (Md.) and Presbyterian before falling to George Washington on Monday evening.
UMBC went 1-1 in the UMBC/Navy Tournament, placing second thanks to a goals-scored tiebreaker.
Adamo Pantaleo,
Aidom Tadesse, and
Abdul Kamara were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Battling through injury at the head of the attack, UMBC has used a different starting XI in each of its three games this season. Six players have combined to score eight goals for UMBC with Kamara leading the way with three. Kamara earned America East Offensive Player of the Week honors for a two-goal performance last Friday against Presbyterian in a 5-1 win.
Other goal scorers for UMBC this season include
Flynn Holdem, a freshman who has made two starts up top,
Gunder Miller, a veteran attacker, Tadesse, an athletic wing with great pace, Pantaleo, a defensive captain, and
Nico Banks, a 6-7 defender providing a vertical threat in the box.
UMBC has totaled five assists this season with Banks,
Abdi Bahur,
Jonas Nistad,
Shawn Shvartshtein, and
Lance Talley picking up assists.
Joe Pollard has made two starts in net for UMBC with
Jackson Boonmast starting the win over Presbyterian.
Lehigh sits at 0-2-1 to start the campaign, falling 4-1 to La Salle and 2-0 to Old Dominion before drawing Fairfield 2-2.
Luciano Larrea and Thomas Robertson have each scored a goal for Lehigh and started all three contests this season. Anton Kinnunen has made all three starts in net for the Mountain Hawks, making 10 saves and allowing eight goals.
