BALTIMORE - UMBC men's soccer dropped its first contest of the season, falling 3-0 to George Washington on Monday evening at Retriever Soccer Park.
The first 45 minutes of the match were a slugfest in the midfield, with only one shot on goal, resulting in a Joe Pollard save for the Retrievers.
George Washington took advantage of its opportunities in the second half, starting with a goal from Yago Torres in the 52nd minute. Webb Kosich dribbled up the end line and somehow found Jaden Dubon for a goal in the 78th minute as the Revolutionaries built a 2-0 lead. Dubon added a second goal in the 90th minute to close out the 3-0 victory.
Dealing with a number of injuries up top, the Retrievers made a handful of changes in the starting XI, as Aidom Tadesse earned his first start of the season on the wing. Logan Ehart also rejoined the starting lineup for the second time this season, after coming off the bench in the win over Presbyterian.
UMBC's chances on target came in the 77th and 80th minutes as Diego Pena cleaned up shots from Gunder Miller from just outside the box and Nico Banks on a chance inside the 18.
Shots for the contest were nearly even with GW tallying 12 to UMBC's 11.
Abdul Kamara, Tadesse, and
Adamo Pantaleo were named to the UMBC/Navy All-Tournament Team as UMBC placed second in the event, winning a goals scored tie breaker over Navy.
