Baseball Makes Short Trip to Joe Cannon Stadium for Tuesday Clash With Coppin State

UMBC has not faced the defending MEAC championships since 2020.

The UMBC baseball team (6-9) makes the short trip to Joe Cannon Stadium in Hanover to take on Coppin State on Tuesday, March 21. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
 
RETRIEVER NOTES 
  • UMBC lost a pair of one-run games in the three-game sweep at the hands of America East foe Maine over the weekend. The Retrievers are looking to halt a four-game slide.
  • The Retrievers have hit 33 doubles in 15 games and are ranked 51st nationally in doubles per game.
  • A graduate student and a freshman are leading the way for the Retrievers. Graduate student OF Ian Diaz is hitting .377 with a robust .542 on-base percentage through 15 games. He is ranked 26th nationally in OBP.
  • Freshman 1B Leewood Molessa leads the conference in RBI's per contest with 1.33 (20 in 15 games. Molessa earned America East Conference Rookie of the Week honors for games ending March 12.
  • Sophomore 3B Matt Ryan went 5-for-8 with four RBI in Saturday's doubleheader vs. Maine.   
A GLANCE AT THE EAGLES  
  • The defending MEAC Champions improved to 6-13 with a three-game sweep at Merrimack last weekend.
  • They won two games by one run, including a 16-15 victory on Friday, which snapped a 13-game losing streak.
  • Junior OF Brody Black leads the offense with a .306 batting average and six doubles. Classmate Jordan Hamberg is hitting .292 and has driven in 19 runs in 19 games.
 SERIES HISTORY
  • The two teams have not met since March 10, 2020, when UMBC edged Coppin State, 4-2.
  • The Retrievers have won 14 of the last 16 meetings and lead the all-time series, 50-3.
