Men's Hoops Resumes America East Action at UMass Lowell on Wednesday Evening

LAST TIME OUT:  UMBC CRUISES AGAINST HARTFORD

- Senior wing Jacob Boonyasith led four players in double-figures with 19 points as the host UMBC men's basketball team defeated the Hartford Hawks, 87-62, in a non-conference victory at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on Monday evening.
- UMBC (13-6), who shot a season-high 58.3 percent (35-of-60), picked up their DI program-record tenth regular-season non-conference win. Boonyasith converted 7-of-11 field goal attempts and was 4-for-6 from behind the arc.
- Graduate student forward Jarvis Doles (12 points, 7 rebounds), graduate student guard Colton Lawrence (12 points), and graduate student forward Tra'Von Fagan (11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) were also in double-figures in scoring. 
 
ABOUT UMASS LOWELL
- The River Hawks own the top overall record in the America East with a 15-4 mark.
- UMass Lowell is a perfect 9-0 at Costello Athletic Center.
- The River Hawks have dropped their first two AE road contests (UAlbany & Binghamton). They have defeated NJIT, Maine and Vermont at home.
- UMass Lowell leads the conference in scoring margin (+12.6), field goal percentage (.488), oppponent field goal percentage (.381), 3-point fg percentage (.384), rebounding margin (9.2) and blocks per game (5.3).
- Karim Coulibaly leads the league in field goal percentage (.597) and is third in rebounding (8.1 pg.).
 
SERIES HISTORY
- The River Hawks have won four of the last five meetings with UMBC, including three straight.
- UMBC's last win was a 60-50 decision in Lowell during the 2019-20 campaign.
 
ROAD WARRIORS
-UMBC has won four of their last five road contests after defeating Bryant last Sunday. The lone loss came at Maryland on Dec. 29.UMBC is 4-4 on the road. The Retrievers finished just 6-10 away from home last season.
 
DOG BITES
- UMBC picked up their program-record 10th non-conference regular-season victory on Monday versus Hartford.
- UMBC is averaging 86.2 ppg. over their past four games
- UMBC is 13-1 when they shoot 40 percent or higher. The lone loss came at UNC Greensboro. They are also 12-0 when they outshoot their opponent.
- The Retrievers are 8-0 when they hold opponents under 70 points.
- Tra'Von Fagan is averaging 14.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and is shooting 68 percent (21-of-31) in America East play.
- UMBC is a combined 40-of-46 (87 percent)  from the foul line in the final four minutes this season.
- Matteo Picarelli is 16-of-17 (94 percent) from the line in AE play.
- Craig Beaudion II went 7-for-8 from the foul line against Maine on Saturday. He entered the game just 6-for-9 from the stripe.
 
BOMBS AWAY
-The Retrievers swished 17 triples for the 5th time in program history at UNCG (11/22/22). 
- UMBC attempted 37 treys, just six shy of their all-time single-game mark.
-The squad then broke the record with 21 bombs in their blowout victory over Coppin State. The Retrievers attempted 40 shots from distance in the contest.
-UMBC ranks 29th in the country with 9.2 3's made per game and 40th in attempts per game at 25.3.
 
TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
-UMBC ranks 18th in the country with a 1.50 assists/turnover ratio
-UMBC is 13th in the country in fewest turnovers per game (10.2).
-UMBC committed a season-low 5 miscues at Bryant.
-Starting point guard Craig Beaudion II is 30th in the country in assists/turnover ratio (2.62). He's also 7th in the AE in steals per game (1.4).
-UMBC is 10-3 win they win the turnover battle.
 
BENCH MOB
- UMBC's bench ranks 20th in the country with 28.9 ppg.
- Matteo Picarelli leads the charge at 10.8 ppg.
 
THAT 70'S SHOW
-The Retrievers scored 70 or more points in 10 straight (11-18 through 12/29) before the 64-point output at Maryland. -It was the first time they had hit the mark 10 straight times since the 2000-01 season. They are 12-2 when they score 70+ this season.
 
AMERICA EAST LEADERS
- UMBC leads the conference in free throw percentage (.760), 3-pt field goals per game (9.2), turnover margin (1.8), assists/turnover ratio (1.50), assists per game (15.3).
