Baseball Falls to Maine in Series Opener

Black Bears post a 17-1 victory in the first of three at Alumni Field

Box Score BALTIMORE – Visiting Maine (8-13, 5-2 America East) scored seven runs in the fourth inning and went on to defeat UMBC (12-13, 4-3 AE), 17-1, in the opening game of the three-game series at Alumni Field.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Retrievers.
 
Maine's other big inning occurred in the seventh, when they recorded five runs.
 
The Retrievers scored in the fourth inning when Logan Doran one-out double down the left field line plated Ian Diaz.
 
Tyler McDonnell threw the final 2.2 innings for UMBC and did not allow any hits or runs.
 
The two teams meet again at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
