UMBC swept a doubleheader from Mount St. Mary's, taking game one, 7-4, and winning a 17-13 slugfest in the nightcap.
The Retrievers (7-7) have won six of their last seven games.
GAME 1: UMBC 7, Mount St. Mary's 4
After the visitors took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning, the Retrievers responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning and held Mount scoreless the rest of the way to prevail, 7-4.
Sophomore pitcher
Luke Johnson pitched five innings and earned the win. Senior
Owen Hamilton and freshman
Evan Selmer each got through two innings unscathed to close out the victory. Selmer earned his first collegiate save.
Graduate student
Myles Nicholson led the offense with three hits and added his 13th stolen base of the season.
In the pivotal third inning,
Ian Diaz,
Luke Trythall and
Justin Taylor singled with two outs, and Taylor's base hit plated Diaz. Krueger walked to load the bases, and freshman
Jayden Shertel's triple into the the right field corner drove in three runs to give
UMBC a 5-4 lead. Shertel would score as
Nolan Charlton's ground ball could not be handled by the Mount first baseman.
UMBC added a run in the sixth when sophomore shortstop
Drew Roberts stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Mount catcher.
The Mount threatened in the ninth, putting the first two batters on base. But Selmer induced a 5-3 double play, and, after a walk to bring the tying run up again, got a ground out to Roberts to end the game.

GAME 2: UMBC 17, Mount St. Mary's 13
UMBC scored in seven of eight innings, but trailed after the Mount batted in innings 2,3 and 4. The Retrievers would score 10 times in those three frames, including a four-run fourth, which put them ahead at 11-8.
The Mount scored three times in the top of the seventh to surge in front, 13-12, but the Retrievers matched that with three runs to grab the lead for good. Trythrall's double to left field plated Diaz and Easley and Shertel's sacrifice fly to center brought home Trythall to give UMBC a 15-13 advantage.
Nicholson, Taylor and Roberts all produced three base hits and Roberts drove in six runs. Roberts drove in two runs apiece in the second, third and fourth innings, which included a two-run triple in the fourth.
Taylor cracked his first UMBC home run, a solo blast in the UMBC third.
Shertel got the win in relief. He allowed two unearned runs when entering the game in the seventh, but fanned five over his three innings of work.
The two teams are slated to meet in Emmitsburg on Sunday.
