Video Highlights | Postgame Interviews

BALTIMORE – UMBC sophomore striker Taylor Calheira (Towson, Md./Concordia Prep) gave UMBC (1-1-1) its lone lead of the night with a goal late in the first overtime period as the Retrievers defeated La Salle, 3-2, in a UMBC-Navy Classic contest played at Retriever Soccer Park.

La Salle (1-2) led, 1-0, and 2-1, before junior midfielder Ryan Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) knotted the game at 2-2 in the 82'.

UMBC will face Iona on Sunday, a 2-1 overtime loser at Navy. La Salle will play the Midshipmen in Annapolis.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • La Salle's Dominick Bachstein scored the lone goal of the first half in the 24'
  • UMBC sophomore midfielder Jago Lott (Somerset, U.K.) curled in a direct kick from a severe angle inside the far right post in the 59' to knot the score at 1-1
  • The Explorers' Justin Brunow also tallied from an nearly impossible angle, finding the far left corner of the net in the 74'
  • With time ticking down, the brothers Becher collaborated on the tying goal. Jackson, a senior reserve forward, one-timed a long pass to Ryan, streaking down the center and the younger sibling found the upper right corner from nine yards out in the 82'
  • The game went to overtime knotted at 2-2
  • With just 1:27 to play in the first extra period, Lott's hooking free kick, was flicked by Ryan Becher to Calheira, who headed it in from close range

NOTABLE
