Women's Lacrosse Falls To UAlbany, 19-7

ALBANY, N.Y. - In one of their final road games of the season, the UMBC women's lacrosse team fell, 19-7, to the UAlbany Great Danes on Friday afternoon.

 

FOR THE RECORD

UAlbany moves to 8-4 overall on the season and 5-1 in America East play. UMBC falls to 4-4 on the year and 3-3 in conference contests.

 

STRAIGHT FACTS

UAlbany opened the game on a seven-game scoring streak before senior Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) netted her eighth free position goal of the season to put UMBC on the board, 7-1, with 15:41 to play in the first half.

 

The Great Danes added another six goals to take a 13-1 lead before graduate student Katie Schluederberg (Elkridge, Md./Howard/Penn State added a goal off an assist from senior Lily Kennedy (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) with seconds left as UAlbany took a 13-2 lead into halftime.

 

UAlbany scored the opening goal of the second half, but Kennedy scored her lone goal of the game at the 24:47 mark to make the score 14-3.

 

The Great Danes scored two more before the Retrievers went back-to-back with a goal from Docal and a score from sophomore Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Preparatory) for a 14-5 score. 

 

Megan Halczuk (Fawn Grove, Pa.) and Docal scored the final goals of the half for UMBC, but UAlbany added three more before the final buzzer to take the 19-7 victory. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

64 - With seven draw controls on the day, Halczuk is now tied for fifth in program history with 64 on the season. She is tied with Stephanie Allen (2002) and Brittany Levine (2019).

 

4 - Kennedy scored a team-high four points in the game, recording a season-high three assists to go along with her goal.

 

ONTO THE NEXT ONE 

UMBC will head to Vermont for its final road game of the season to take on the Catamounts on Saturday, April 17. The opening draw is set for 11 a.m. in Burlington.
