Men’s Basketball Looks to Bounce Back at Georgetown on Wednesday

Scouting the Retrievers:
  • UMBC heads to our nation's capital at 5-3 on the year, having their three-game win streak snapped in a 70-60 loss to Delaware on Sunday. The Retrievers battled from down 15 in the second half to trail by just seven, but the Blue Hens held off the Retrievers.
  • Three Retrievers hit double figures, led by Keondre Kennedy (Atlanta, Ga.) and Yaw Obeng-Mensah (Toronto, Ontario) with 13 points. Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC) added 12 in the loss.
  • Kennedy leads the team averaging 15.1 ppg, shooting 53 percent from the floor. He is grabbing 4.5 rpg and shooting 46 percent from three.
  • Rogers is the only other Retriever in double figures at 13.0 ppg and is dishing out a team-best 3.9 apg.
  • Obeng-Mensah leads the team on the glass, pulling down 5.3 rpg.
Scouting the Hoyas:
  • Georgetown comes into the contest at 3-4 on the year, most recently falling to South Carolina, 80-67 on Sunday afternoon. The Hoyas trimmed the deficit to just two possessions in the second half, but could not get any closer.
  • Four different Hoyas are averaging double figures led by reigning Big East Rookie of the Week Aminu Mohammed at 14.3 ppg. Mohammed also leads the team on the boards, averaging 7.9 rpg.
  • Dante Harris and Donald Carey are just behind him at 14.0 ppg and 13.4 ppg respectively. Kaiden Rice is the other Hoya in double figures at 11.7 ppg.
All-Time Series:
  • This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools, and the third straight. The Hoyas hold a 4-0 lead in the series, including a 70-62 win in the season opener last year.
  • Three of the four games have been played in the District, with the 2008 meeting happening in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Milestone Watch:
  • Several Retrievers are approaching career milestones in 2021-22. L.J. Owens is approaching the 1,000 point mark, needing just 235 points to achieve the mark. He is also just 9 games away from 100 career games played.
  • Darnell Rogers needs 84 points to reach 500 career points.
  • Newcomer Ray Salnave needs just 174 points to reach 1,500 career points after scoring 1,266 during his time at Monmouth and DePaul.
