ANNAPOLIS –
Jasmine Holland (Owings, Md./Northern) set a new school record in the triple jump, leading an outstanding effort by the Retrievers' indoor track and field squad at the season opening Navy Invitational.
Holland broke her own UMBC mark, stretching out at 11.87m (38'11.5"), just .02m behind the event winner. Moreover, the junior leaped 5.64m in the long jump, placing fourth overall and recording the second-best distance in school history.

Petronilla Onyebadi (Edgewood, Md./Harford Tech) was just behind Holland, jumping 5.63m for the third-best mark all-time. Onyebadi excelled on the track as well, finishing second in the 60m dash in a time of 7.70, the fifth-best time for a Retriever.
Freshman
Caitlyn Bobb (Joppa, Md./debuted in brilliant fashion, winning the 500m dash in a time of 1:14.14, the fifth-best time in school history and qualifying for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.

Ayanna Johnson (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and sophomore
Autumn Winston (Upper Marlboro, Md.) also qualified for the ECAC/IC4A Championships in the 1600m relay. The quartet placed third against a strong field with a time of 3:51.58.
Junior
Madison Armonda (Silver Spring, Md.) got things started for UMBC by winning the mile run in a time of 5:13.76.
UMBC will resume competition at the Penn State Nittany Lion Challenge on January 15.
