Farmville, Va.-- UMBC men's basketball dropped the second game of the Jerome Kersey Classic on Saturday, 82-55 against Longwood (4-1). The Lancers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. UMBC (2-2) was led by Ray Salnave (Elmont, N.Y.) with 14 points, the only Retriever in double figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Longwood raced out of the gates strong, building a 18-10 lead at the under 12 media timeout.
  • UMBC battled for most of the half, and would get the lead down to six after a three from Salnave, and back-to-back buckets from Yaw Obeng-Mensah (Toronto, Ontario), but the Lancers then went on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 15.
  • The Retrievers found themselves down 47-24 at the half after Longwood shot 62 percent from the floor in the half.
  • Salnave led the Retrievers in the first half with nine points on 3-5 shooting.
  • It was more of the same in the second half as the Retrievers fell behind by as many as 36, as the Lancers defeated the Retrievers 82-55 on Saturday night.
NOTABLE:
  • Salnave ended the night with 14 points to lead the Retrievers.
  • Keondre Kennedy (Atlanta, Ga.) and Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC) each had seven points.
