Box Score Annapolis, Md.-- UMBC baseball held a lead for most of the day on Sunday, but four runs late by the Midshipmen gave them an 8-6 win. The Retrievers held a 6-2 lead after four innings, but Navy scored the last six runs of the game in the win.
UMBC falls to 2-10 on the year while Navy wins their 12th straight to go to 12-1 on the year.
Navy got things started with a pair of runs in the second. However, the Retrievers would score the next six runs over two innings to take an early lead. Nolan Charlton (Atlantic City, N.J.) drove in the first of three runs in the third with his RBI single back to the pitcher that scored Peter Godrick (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) who singled earlier in the inning. Dmitri Floyd (Dover, Del.) followed up with a sacrifice bunt to score Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) to tie it with Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James/Charleston Southern) pushing UMBC in front on an RBI single that plated Charlton.
That success carried over into the fourth. Godrick doubled home Michael Cilio (Chester, N.J.) who led off with a hit by pitch. After Godrick advanced on a wild pitch, O'Saben drove him in with a triple and later scored on a Charlton sacrifice fly to give UMBC a 6-4 lead.
The Midshipmen responded with a pair of runs in their half of the fourth to cut the Retriever lead to just 6-4 and eventually take the lead with three runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to make it 8-6, holding the Retrievers over the final two innings to win by that margin.
Charlton led the way with a pair of hits, including one double and two RBI. Peter Godrick also collected two hits and one RBI with O'Saben, Floyd, and Brown also driving in runs.
UMBC will return home to kick off a nine-game homestand against Coppin State on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Alumni Field.
