Box Score Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC baseball picked up win number three on the year with a 4-2 win against Coppin State on Tuesday afternoon. The Retrievers were led by Peter Godrick (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) who drove in a pair of runs, including the go-ahead run in the fourth to lift the Retrievers past the Eagles.
UMBC improves to 3-10 while Coppin State falls to 3-9 on the year.
Nolan Charlton (Atlantic City, N.J.) reached on a one-out walk in the first and was brought home on the very next pitch thanks to a Dmitri Floyd (Dover, Del.) triple down the right-field line. UMBC would add another in the second with Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) reaching on a single and advancing on a single and sacrifice bunt. He scored after Peter Godrick laid down another sacrifice bunt to make it 2-0 UMBC.
Godrick added another run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly that scored Casey to make it 3-0. The Eagles would respond with a run in the fifth, but a Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) sac fly pushed the advantage back to three at 4-1.
Leading 4-2 in the ninth, Cooper Adams (Potomac, Md./St. John's College) came on and got a double play to end the game, picking up his second save of the year and giving UMBC a 4-2 win.
Godrick drove in a pair of runs with Casey adding two hits. Seven different Retrievers had a hit. Keegan Leffler (Wilton, N.Y.) picked up his first win of the year, throwing 1.1 innings of relief with a strikeout and no hits.
UMBC will host Maine this weekend to kick off America East play with a single game on Friday at 4 p.m. and a double-header on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
