Box Score DeLand, Fla.— UMBC baseball dropped the series finale against the Hatters, 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Retrievers managed just five hits in the contest, with Michael Cilio (Chester, N.J.) collecting two of his own.
The Retrievers fall to 1-7 on the year while the Hatters improve to 8-2.
Neither side could get anything going over the first two innings, with Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James/Charleston Southern) having the only hit for either side.
The Hatters finally broke through with a pair of runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead. UMBC would not have more than one runner on base at any time the rest of the way. The Hatters scored two more in the fifth and one in the eighth to take game three 5-0.
Cilio led the way for UMBC with two hits with Dmitri Floyd (Dover, Del.), Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.), and Brown also collecting hits.
The Retrievers are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Towson. First pitch with the Tigers is set for 3 p.m.
