UMBC Track and Field Heads to Fairfax for George Mason Patriot Games

Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC track and field returns to action this weekend at the George Mason Patriot Games on Saturday. The Retrievers were off last weekend after competing last in at the Great Dane Classic on January 4.

Last Time Out (Great Dane Classic): 

-Asha Washington got the women off to a strong start finishing fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.92. A trio of Retrievers finished in the top ten of the 500m dash, led by Ariella Garcia. Garcia turned in a time of 1:16.51 to take seventh place. She was followed by Kaya Knake in eighth (1:16.71) and Tori Johnson in tenth (1:17.46). Catherine Jordan and Ryanna Kimbembe went eight-ten in the 800m with times of 2:23.93 and 2:26.83 respectively. Bridgett Redding and Morgan Casey rounded out the top runners with Redding taking fourth in the 1,000m (2:58.07) and Casey finishing eighth in the mile (5:07.87).

-In the field, Petronilla Onyebadi had the best finish taking ninth in the long jump at 5.38m.

-On the men's side, Brian Cave had the best finish of any Retriever finishing fourth in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:19.36. Hugh O'Connor finished the race in tenth place, crossing the finish line in 15:58.17. Darius Adams took ninth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.19. Michael Schlining and William Hanna-Leverett went five-six in the 1,000m with times of 2:38.38 and 2:28.97. Miles Smith rounded out the top runners with a sixth-place finish in the mile. Smith finished with a time of 4:17.27.

-Maurice Johnson led the field athletes with an 11th place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 14.53m.

Last Year at the Patriot Games:

-Matt Kane and Erik Jenks turned in second-place finishes in the mile and 500m dash respectively. Kane finished with a time of 4:22.81 while Jenks finished in a time of 1:07.85. John Olojo finished 12th in the 60m dash with a time of 7.22 while Nathan Trowell-Lopez took 7th in the 800m with a time of 2:03.21 to round out the top runners.

-Jameer Robinson and Andrew Haberman led the Retriever men in the field with a 9th place finish in the long jump (4.55m) and 7th place finish in the weight throw (14.75m).

-Ryanna Kimbembe had the best finish on the women's side with a fourth-place finish in the 500m dash in 1:20.55. CC Davies finished just behind her in the race in seventh place in a time of 1:21.58. Margo Henley and Emma Kartalia finished sixth and 11th in the 3,000m with times of 10:48.09 and 10:59.08 respectively with Leanne Sneeringer finishing 12th in the mile in 5:33.47.

-Breanna Flores led the field athletes with a ninth-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 13.40m.

-UMBC will return to action next weekend at the Penn State National Open on Friday and Saturday.
