Prodanas Sets Another School Record to Lead UMBC at Towson Invitational

Results

Towson, Md.—UMBC track and field saw a strong showing from a number of athletes on the track and in the field on Saturday, led by Alexios Prodanas who won gold in the hammer throw with a toss of 67.20m. The throw broke the record he set back in 2017.

Manos Kamtsiklis and Andrew Haberman went two-three in the event with throws of 58.88m and 53.15m. Prodanas also turned in a fourth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 45.77m. Rodney Sachiti earned a pair of top five finishes, taking fourth in the triple jump (13.44m) and third in the long jump (6.81m). Trenson Terry finished second in the long jump at 6.84m with Jameer Robinson rounding out the field athletes with a sixth-place finish in the javelin (49.02m).

On the track, Chris Thoms picked up gold in the 5,000m, crossing the finish line in a time of 15:31.84. Bradley Arbaugh and Eric Smart finished the event in fourth (15:47.17) and fifth (15:51.07) respectively. Trenson Terry also picked up a silver in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 55.14.

Erin Patrice earned top ten finishes in both the 100m and 200m dashes with Kara Patrice finishing top ten in the 100m. Erin finished fourth in the final of the 100m dash in 12.25 after going 12.40 in the prelims before finishing fifth in the 200m in 25.57. Kara Patrice took tenth in the 100m crossing the tape in 12.76.

Alexis Bartelloni turned in a third-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 12:00.76. Tori Johnson took fifth in the 400m hurdles in 1:05.47 with Briana Robert and Bridgett Redding taking sixth and seventh in the 1,500m with times of 4:46.31 and 4:46.88. Emmy Beyer and Edith Torres rounded the female runners in the 5,000m with Beyer taking fifth (18:48.57) and Torres taking seventh (19:00.97).

In the field, Kelechi Nwanaga led the way with a fourth-place finish in the shot put (13.65m) and Eleni Zotou taking eighth in the hammer throw (47.42m).

The Retrievers will be back on the track next Saturday, April 13 when they travel to George Mason for the Mason Spring Invitational.
