Towson, Md.-- UMBC baseball held a lead for most of the day, but ultimately fell to rival Towson 8-7 on Tuesday. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) broke the game open with a three-run double in the fourth, but the Tigers rallied in the eighth for the win.

UMBC falls to 19-19 on the year, while Towson moves to 11-29 on the year.

The Tigers got on the board first, blasting a solo home run in the second, the first hit by either side to that point.

Just two innings later, Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) got ahold of a 1-0 fastball and blasted it over the left field fence to tie it at 1-1.Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) joined the party just batters later taking a pitch over the short porch in right field for a two-run blast to give UMBC a 3-1 lead in the fourth.

After the Tigers answered with a run in the fourth, UMBC put up another three-spot in the fifth. The Retrievers would load the bases with AJ Wright unloading the bases on a three-RBI double to push the Retriever advantage to 6-2.

However, the Tigers would score the next four runs to tie it at 6-6 in the seventh. That tie would be short lived with Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa.) demolishing a 1-2 fastball over the left center field wall to give UMBC a one-run lead.

Towson would grab the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth after loading the bases and scoring on an RBI single to take the game 8-7.

Wright led the way with three RBI on the day, with Casey, Pinkston and Beeman each hitting home runs in the loss.

UMBC will return home to take on first-place Stony Brook in America East action this Saturday and Sunday.
