Baltimore, Md.— UMBC baseball dropped a 7-2 decision to cross-county rival Towson on Tuesday that saw the Retrievers collect just two hits. The Tigers scored two runs in each of the first two innings to put the Retrievers away early.

UMBC falls to 16-17 while the Tigers improve to 8-27.

Towson got things started early with a pair of runs in the first two innings to take an early 4-0 lead.

The Retrievers would go hairless for the first seven innings of the game before finally breaking through in the eighth. Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) got the first hit of the game on a sharp single to short. However, the inning would end on a double play with Towson taking a 7-0 lead into the ninth.

UMBC led off the inning with a Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) walk and AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) single to put a pair on. Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) brought home Torres to score the first UMBC run. Joe Milkowski (Lackawanna, N.Y.) added another scoring Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) on a ground out. That would be all the Retrievers get as a ground out ends the game, giving Towson a 7-2 win.

Wright, Goodwin and Machado had the only hits of the game with Goodwin and Milkowski driving in runs.

The Retrievers will have a short turnaround, taking on Maryland Eastern Shore tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
