Scouting the Retrievers:
UMBC returns to action after snapping a three-game losing streak on Saturday, besting Coppin State, 86-77. Aided by good defense and Coppin State foul trouble, UMBC was able to neutralize the Eagles' comeback attempt late in the second half. Six different Retrievers scored in double features, lead by Brandon Horvath (West River, Md./Southern) who had a team-high 16 points and was one of three players to bring in seven rebounds.
Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC) and K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas/Temple College)continue to be the scoring leaders for the Black and Gold, averaging 14 and 13.4 ppg, respectively. Rogers and Jackson are also tied for the team lead in assists, with both averaging 4.3 apg. Horvath leads the team with 5.7 rpg.
Scouting the Hoyas:
Georgetown is entering Tuesday's contest looking to extend their three-game win streak. Last time out, they defeated Syracuse, 89-79. Mac McClung lead the Hoyas to the win with a game-high 26 points.
Omer Yurtseven is the leading scorer for the Hoyas, averaging 16.6 ppg, with McClung right behind him at 16.1 ppg. Yurtsevenalso is the team's rebound leader, averaging 9.4 per game, which helps him to be second in the Big East Conference in rebounds.
All-Time Series:
This will be the first time that the two schools will face off since they played each other in the NCAA Tournament after UMBC won their first ever America East Conference title. The 2007-08 Retrievers earned a 15 seed in that year's tournament, eventually losing, 66-47, to two seed Georgetown.
Georgetown has won the only other game played between the two schools.
Next Man Up:
UMBC has used nine different starting lineups throughout their 12 games so far this season due to various injuries across the roster. L.J. Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) has been the only player to start every game for the Retrievers this season.
