BALTIMORE – UMBC senior midfielder Colin Weyant (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) scored the game's lone goal in the 58th minute as the Retrievers blanked visiting Penn, 1-0, before 2,017 fans at Retriever Soccer Park.

UMBC improved to 5-6-1 on the season, while Penn fell to 4-4-2.

Retriever sophomore netminder Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) posted his second shutout of the season. He made two saves, both in the first half, and his highlight-reel, leaping save of a Ben Stitz header, bound for the upper right corner in the 32nd minute kept the game scoreless.

Jones' other shutout occurred in a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Hartford. 

Weyant's first goal of the season came after he received short range passes from senior forward Jordan Dove (Gambrills, Md./DeMatha) and freshman midfielder Ryan Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.). Becher's lateral pass teed Weyant up 25 yards away from the goal and to goalkeeper Nick Christoffersen's right, but the veteran's ground-hugging shot tucked just inside the far right post.

Weyant's score was the lone shot attempt in the final 45 minutes of play. Penn took three of their four corner kicks in the second half, but could not test Jones on any of the attempts.

UMBC outshot Penn, 5-3, and Christoffersen made one save, as he rose up to parry sophomore midfielder Alejandro Arbelaez's (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) 21-yard blast over the cage in the 34th minute.

The Retriever win evened the all-time series at 2-2-1.  

UMBC returns to America East play on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they host the UAlbany Great Danes. Kick-off time at Retriever Soccer Park is slated for 7:00 p.m.
