First Place Hartford Takes Down Volleyball in Four Sets

West Hartford, Ct. -- Freshman middle blocker Niki Khoshatefeh (Temecula, Calif.) had a team-best 10 kills, while senior libero Brooke Hayden (Mt.Airy, Md.) added 20 digs, but the UMBC Volleyball team fell at first place Hartford in four sets (23-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-19) on Friday night. 

Senior Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) and junior outside hitter Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) had nine kills for UMBC (3-13, 0-3 AE). Freeman added 11 digs and Reed chipped in two blocks while hitting a team-high .292. The Hawks (11-7, 3-0 AE) hit .248 for the match and held the Retrievers to just .097 hitting overall. 

Freshman setter Riley Putnicki (Monument, Colo.) added 32 assists and six digs, while Khoshatefeh had three blocks (one solo). Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Kamani Conteh each had multiple kills and digs for the Retrievers. 

UMBC will travel to Long Island to face two-time defending conference champion Stony Brook at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
