Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball fell behind and rallied to take the lead, but a late run by the Eagles propelled them to a 13-11 victory on Wednesday afternoon. A trio of Retrievers drove in a pair of runs in the loss.

UMBC falls to 19-24 on the year with Coppin State moving to 20-21-1 on the year.

The Eagles got out of the gates early, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first. The Retrievers responded with a pair of runs in the third. Freshman Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) driving in Jack Finn (Ellicott City, Md./Rider) and Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) to make it 3-2.

However, Coppin State answered back with five runs in their half of the third to push in front 8-2.

That sparked the Retriever offense, who scored the next eight runs in the game to take their first lead fo the game. Chris Convers (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) drove in Joe Milkowski (Lackawanna, N.Y.) on a single to rught, and would later score on a Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va.) single. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) ended the rally with a sacrifice fly to plate Finn, cutting the deficit to 8-5.

UMBC used a big fourth inning to take the lead, pushing five runs across in the frame. Zack DeThomasis (Rensselaer, N.Y.) tripled home Dmitri Floyd (Dover, Del.) to get things started. Convers and Carroll drove in runs, wth Wright adding another on sac fly.

The Retrievers added another in the eighth, but it was not enough, as Coppin State scored five in their half of the eighth to take a 13-11 lead, holding on to win by that score.

Goodwin, DeThomasis and Machado each had a pair of hits with Wright, Goodwin and Convers driving in two runs.

UMBC will head to Binghamton this weekend for a critical America East series on Saturday and Sunday.
