Vestal, N.Y.—Senior pitcher Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) needed just 94 pitches in a complete game shutout of the Bearcats on Saturday night. Chanin struck out five and scattered three hits in the win on Saturday.

UMBC improves to 20-24, 10-9 AE on the year, while Binghamton falls to 16-28-1, 8-14 AE.

Both teams had trouble getting anything going in the early going, with the Retrievers getting the best chance in the second getting a pair on base. However, UMBC could not cash in.

The Retrievers broke through in the sixth, getting a pair of runs to take the lead. With one out, AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) singled up the middle and would steal second to get into scoring position. Following a Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) hit by pitch, Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) ripped a double down the left field line to score Wright. Goodwin would score just pitches later on a wild pitch to put UMBC up 2-0.

That would be all they needed as Chanin kept the Bearcat bats silenced in a 2-0 victory. The senior righty struck out five batter, scattering three hits in a complete game shutout. He needed just 94 pitches and 71 strikes in the contest.

Torres had two of the three Retriever hits with one RBI.

UMBC and Binghamton will conclude their series tomorrow, Sunday May 13 with a double header starting at 1 p.m.
