UMBC Baseball Travels to Missouri for Weekend Series

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball continues their season opening road swing with a three-game set at Missouri this weekend. The Retrievers are coming off a 7-0 loss to Navy this past Tuesday and sit at 1-3 early on in 2018.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC is coming off a 7-0 loss that saw the Retrievers muster just four hits against the Midshipmen. Sophomore Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) was the lone Retriever with multiple hits, as Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va./WT Woodson) and Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) recorded the other hits in the contest.

-Senior Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) leads the Retriever offense hitting .273 with three hits in 11 at bats. Stewart and Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) have also recorded three hits on the young season. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) has driven in three runs along with one home run to lead UMBC.

-On the hill, Mitchell Wilson (Hagerstown, Md./St. James) leads the rotation with a 1.93 ERA in one start. He has thrown 4.2 innings, striking out four. Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Appalachian State) is the leader in the bullpen, not surrendering a run in two appearances with six strikeouts.

Scouting the Tigers:

-Missouri comes into the weekend after sweeping a mid-week series with Alabama A&M to move to 7-3 on the year. The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 21-3 over the two games, including a 14-0 win on Wednesday.

-Ben Sharp leads the offense with a .517 average, leading the Tigers with 15 hits and two home runs. He has driven in 11 runs. Trey Harris is batting .366 with 15 hits and a team best 13 RBI and four stolen bases.

-On the mound, Bryce Montes De Oca leads the weekend rotation with a 0.90 ERA in two starts. He is 1-0 with nine strikeouts. Michael Plassmeyer has 21 strikeouts in 11.0 innings of work

All-Time Series:

-UMBC and Missouri will be meeting for the first time this weekend. It will also be the first time that the Retrievers will be facing an SEC opponent

On Deck:

-UMBC will conclude their road swing at George Washington on Tuesday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. The Retrievers will have their home opener against Mount St. Mary's on Friday, March 9 as part of a weekend tournament with the Mount and Hofstra.
