Carroll Continues Hot Start as Baseball Falls to No.23 St.John's

Cary, NC -- Redshirt senior Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va.) went 2-for-3 at the plate, but the UMBC Baseball Team fell to 23rd-ranked St.John's, 12-0, on Saturday at the USA Baseball Complex. 

Carroll's two singles accounted for half of the Retrievers (1-1) total hits, as Colin Stack (Jamestown, NY) and Raven Bemman (Somerset, Pa.) also singled for UMBC. Junior Joe Milkowski (Lackawanna, NY) reached and stole a base for the second consecutive game. 

St.John's (6-0) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first inning, though seven of the runs were unearned. Senior Matt Chanin (Olney, Md.) got the start and only allowed one hit, but walked four and surrendered five runs (one earned) in just two-thirds of an inning. The Red Storm would add a single runs in the fourth and seventh, sandwiched around a two-run sixth to account for the final score.

UMBC is back in action tomorrow at 10:30 am against Monmouth to close out the opening weekend of play in North Carolina
