Box Score Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball came from behind to take down the Hoyas, 8-5 on Tuesday night. Senior Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) provided the spark with three hits and four RBI with two of the hits coming as home runs.
UMBC moves to 19-21, snapping a two game losing streak while Georgetown falls to 27-25.
The Hoyas got to the Retrievers early, putting up a pair of runs in each of the first two innings to take an early 4-0 lead.
Dolshun answered to lead off the second, blasting a leadoff solo home run to left center to cut the deficit to 4-1. UMBC would cut the deficit to 4-3 after a two-RBI double from Dalton Stewart (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) scored Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va./WT Woodson) and Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC), who singled in the inning.
The Retrievers would take the lead in the fifth, after Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) reached on an error and AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) singled to left to lead off the inning. Dolshun came up and blasted a home run to left field, putting UMBC in front 6-4.
UMBC added some insurance in the sixth, getting a two-run home run from Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) that scored Stewart, making it 8-4.
The Hoyas would try to cut into the lead, getting a run in the eighth but the Retrievers held on for an 8-5 win on Tuesday.
Dolshun collected home run eight and nine in the game, adding four RBI and three hits. Patrick Phillips (Richmond, Va./Old Dominion) picked up his second win, going 1.1 innings in relief. Cory Callahan (Sykesville, Md./Good Counsel) earned save number four with two strikeouts.
UMBC closes the regular season with a three game America East set against Stony Brook on Friday and Saturday, May 19-20 at Alumni Field.
