Retriever Baseball Continues Road Trip at Navy on Tuesday

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball will head to Annapolis for a mid-week clash with Navy on Tuesday afternoon after taking two of three from Albany this past weekend. UMBC is 3-1 to start their ten game road swing, taking down Georgetown last Wednesday.

Scouting the Retrievers (16-18):

-UMBC comes into the contest winners of three of their last four, after taking two of three from Albany this weekend. The Retrievers took games one and two 15-8 and 5-2 before falling 10-2 on Sunday.

-Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) leads the offense with a .324 average, collecting 33 hits with a team best five home runs and 25 RBI. Freshman Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) has been a tear of late, bumping his average up to .319, driving in 21 runs with eight doubles. Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) leads the team with 42 hits, scoring a team best 26 times.

-On the mound, Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) leads the rotation with a 4.40 ERA, going 3-4 in nine starts this year. He has thrown back-to-back complete games with 31 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched. Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) leads the staff with 41 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched.

Scouting the Midshipmen (36-14):

-Navy enters the game with UMBC at 36-14 overall and 16-4 in Patriot League play. The Mids took three of four from Bucknell this past weekend to earn the Patriot League Regular Season Championship.

-A trio of Midshipmen lead a potent offensive attack that is hitting over .300 as a team. Travis Blue is leading the team with a .364 average with a team best 72 hits and 16 doubles. Logan Knowles is batting .348 with 54 runs scored and six triples, while Leland Saile has blasted nine home runs with 58 RBI.

-Kyle Condry is leading the rotation with a 2.95 ERA, going 6-1 in 11 starts this year. He has four complete games, surrendering 21 earned runs in 64 innings with 54 strikeouts. Jett Meenach is the leader out of the pen with a 1.80 ERA and a 5-1 record in 23 appearances.

All-Time Series:

-UMBC and Navy have met 44 times before with the Retrievers holding a 25-19 advantage in the all-time series. UMBC has won the last four meetings, and have not lost in Annapolis since 2012.

-Last year the Retrievers swept the season series with a 5-4 win at Alumni Field and a 6-4 decision in Annapolis in April.

On Deck:

-UMBC will make the trek up to Orono, Maine for a three game America East series with the Black Bears on Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7. UMBC and Maine will play two on Saturday and one on Sunday starting at noon both days.
