UMBC Baseball Takes Down Georgetown, 10-2 on Wednesday Night to Win Third Straight

Box Score

Bethesda, Md.—UMBC baseball continued their winning ways, with a 10-2 win against Georgetown on Wednesday night. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) each drove in three runs in the victory.

UMBC wins their third straight game to move to 14-17 on the year, while Georgetown falls to 21-19.

The Retrievers got on the board first in the third, getting a pair of runs. Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) led off the inning with a single and would advance on a ground out and wild pitch. Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) doubled home Casali on a full count to push UMBC ahead. Dolshun followed up with a single to score Switalski, making it 2-0.

Following a Hoya run in their half of the third, UMBC put up three runs in the fourth. Junior Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va./WT Woodson) led off with a walk and would later score on a Wright fielder's choice. Dolshun recorded RBI two and three with a two-RBI double to left, putting the Retrievers in front 5-1.

The onslaught continued as Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) singled home Mitchell Carroll, who singled with two outs. Casali followed with a double on the very next pitch to score Beeman. Wright then blasted a two-run home run to left, his first of the season.

Georgetown would add a run in the sixth, but back-to-back errors by the Hoyas put the Retrievers in front 10-2. UMBC would hold the Hoyas at bay the rest of the way en route to their third straight win.

Dolshun and Wright each brought in three runs for the Retrievers, as Casali and Beeman each recorded three hits each.

Starter Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) picked up his second win of the year, throwing five innings giving up one run, striking out four.

UMBC continues their ten game road trip with an America East series at Albany on Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30. Earlier in the year, UMBC took two of three from the Great Danes in Baltimore.
