Baltimore, MD – The UMBC Softball team concluded a successful 5-1 week with a Sunday split, winning 6-2 against Siena to extend their win-streak to eight before falling to Robert Morris, 6-5.

UMBC (14-16) was led offensively in game one by juniors Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) and Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J./New Milford). Senior pitcher Jessica Holte (Ashland, Va./Atlee) and junior pitcher Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) combined in the circle to hold the Saints to just two runs in the game game

In game two, the Retrievers were led offensively by Alexander, classmate Haley DeLany (Lederach, Pa./Souderton Area) and freshman Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz./Boulder Creek), including DeLany's first career homerun in the sixth inning.  Puccio contributed four innings of relief, allowing just two hits.

Game 1:

The Saints (3-16) got on the scoreboard first in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead.  The Retrievers responded right back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a three-run triple by Alexander to drive in Daigneau, junior Toni Santonastasso (Canonsburg, Pa./Pope John XXIII Regional), and Lesko.

Siena would respond back in the fourth inning with an unearned run, but UMBC came right back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to and RBI double from Alexander and an RBI single from senior Kaelin Jackson (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional). The Retrievers would tack on an insurance run off a homerun from Lesko to center field in the fifth inning.

Puccio would come on in relief to finish the fourth inning, and shutdown the Saints allowing just three hits and striking out three over her 3.1 innings

Alexander accounted for four of the team's runs, and Jackson and Lesko both drove in one. Puccio recorded the win, pushing her record to 5-4.

Game 2:

The Colonials (6-19) got out to a two-run lead in the first inning, but the Retrievers would answer back in bottom half thanks to aggressive base running by Daigneau off an RMU error. Alexander would score off a wild pitch in the bottom of the third, and would benefit from two more wild pitches in fifth with runs being scored by Alexander and DeLany to keep the Retrievers close to the Colonials.

DeLany provided the lone RBI and biggest hit of the game for the Retrievers with a solo blast to center field to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth.

RMU would retake the lead for good by scoring an unearned run thanks to two errors in the top of the seventh.
