UMBC Baseball Continues Home Stand with Weekend Series Against Albany

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball continues their five game home stand with a three game weekend series against Albany to open America East play. The Retrievers are coming off a tough 4-3 loss to George Washington on Tuesday to fall to 2-10 on the year.

What: UMBC Retrievers (2-10, 0-0 AE) vs. Albany Great Danes (7-6, 0-0 AE)

When: Saturday (DH) and Sunday, March 25-26 – Both days starting at noon

Scouting the Retrievers (2-10):

-The Retrievers are coming off a 4-3 loss to George Washington on Tuesday night. UMBC had to fight back from a deficit to tie the game, but the Colonials got a solo home run in the ninth to take the win.

-Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) leads the team with a .306 average, and a team best 15 hits and ten runs scored. He has driven in five runs with one triple. Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) has belted ten hits with four double and a home run for a .244 average.

-Andy Rozylowicz (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) leads the pitching staff with a 2.45 ERA in four appearances for the Black and Gold. Sophomore Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) has a team best 21 strikeouts in 16.2 innings of work, going 1-1 with a 7.02 ERA.

Scouting the Great Danes (7-6):

-Albany is coming off a 13-5 loss to Brown on Tuesday in Rhode Island, snapping a three game win streak. The Bears jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings, holding the Great Danes scoreless for five innings.

-Kyle Sacks leads the Great Dane offensively with .319 average with a team best 15 hits and nine runs scored. Marc Wangenstein has hit three home runs with eight RBI, slugging .714.

-Brendan Smith leads the rotation with a 2.76 ERA in three starts. He has thrown a team best 16.1 innings giving up just five earned runs with 17 strikeouts. Dominic Savino has a 1.59 ERA with a 1-0 record and two saves coming out of the bullpen.

All-Time Series:

-The Great Danes and Retrievers have met 50 times prior to this weekend, with Albany holding a 32-18 lead, all played in the America East.

-Albany won three of the four meetings last year, including one in the America East Tournament last May. UMBC swept Albany the last time the two played in Baltimore in 2015.

On Deck:

-UMBC will close out the home stand on Tuesday, March 28 against George Mason. The Retrievers and Patriots will square off at 6 p.m. at Alumni Field.
