UMBC Baseball Falls, 15-3 to St. John's on Saturday

Lexington, S.C.— UMBC baseball got off to a fast start against St. John's, but fell 15-3 as the Red Storm outscored the Retrievers 15-1 over the final eight innings.

UMBC falls to 0-2 on the year, while St. John's improves to 6-0.

The Retrievers struck first, getting a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) got on board with a walk, that was followed up by a Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) single to move Wright to second. Both men would advance on a passed ball, setting up Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan). The senior drilled a single to right, scoring both Dolshun and Wright.

However the Red Storm would answer back with six runs in the top of the second, highlighted by a two run home run.

From there St. John's would score five runs over the next two innings to take a commanding 11-2 lead after four.

Trailing 12-2, the Retrievers would get a run back in the sixth. Wright led off the inning with a single, and advanced on a passed ball. Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) knocked him home with a single up the middle to make it 12-3 after six.

The Johnnies would score another three runs in the final innings to take a 15-3 win on Saturday.

Both Wright and Stack had multiple hits for the Retrievers, going 2-3. Stack had one RBI, while Casali went 1-2 with a pair of RBI. 

The Retrievers close out the Lexingotn County vs. Cancer Tournament against the Red Storm at 2 p.m.
