UMBC Gets Back to Their Winning Ways in a 12-3 Victory Against Towson on Tuesday

Box Score

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball got back to their winning ways with a 12-3 victory against local-rival Towson on Tuesday. Senior Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville) had another big day, going 5-6 with three runs scored and three RBI.

The Retrievers got the scoring started in the opening inning, getting a leadoff single from Lachance. The senior would get to third off a failed pick-off attempt. He would later score on a Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 after one. UMBC would tack on another the next inning, with Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) singling home Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) to make it 2-0 Dawgs.

The Tigers would get one back in the third, cutting the deficit to just one, but once again the Retrievers had the answer. Casali led off with a triple, and would cross home on a Lachance hot shot up the middle. Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) would follow up with a single to score Mitchell Carroll and Hax to make it 5-1 after three complete.

Towson would fight back, getting a home run from Brady Policelli, and score another, but Naumann threw out the potential run at the plate.

Lachance would get his fourth hit of the day in the sixth, and would later score, thanks to a Dolshun single. Jamie Switlakski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) would hit a sac fly, plating Naumann to increase the UMBC advantage to 7-3.

They would not be done there, as they would tack on five more in the seventh, capped by a Switalski bases clearing double.

UMBC would keep the Tigers at bay, winning the game 12-3 to move to 3-9 on the year.

Lachance led the way with five hits in six at bats. The senior added three runs scored and three RBI. Freshman Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) got his first collegiate victory, tossing 5.2 innings, giving up five hits and three runs.

The Retrievers are back at it tomorrow, March 9 with a 3 p.m. contest against Coppin State at Alumni Field.
