Harrisonburg, Va.—UMBC baseball dropped the final game of a three game series with the Dukes, 13-5 on Sunday afternoon. The Retrievers were led by Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara), who both had two hits on the day. 

The Dukes got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first two innings to take the early lead.

Casali got the Retriever offense going, with an RBI triple in the fourth. The junior plated A.J. Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West). Hax followed up with a single to right to score Casali to tie the game. However the hits would continue, as Tim Kelly (Hampton, Va./York/Virginia Tech) would get a single of his own to plate Hax, giving UMBC a 4-3 lead after four. 

JMU had their response in the bottom of the inning, getting four in the bottom half to retake the led, 7-4. They would add runs in the in fifth off a Kyle Mcpherson home run and in the sixth on a two RBI double to increase the advantage to 10-4.

Hax would get his second hit of the day in a major way, blasting a home run to right. But the Dukes would tack on three more runs, taking the getaway game, 13-5. 

Casali and Hax each went 2-3 from the dish with two RBI. Hax scored two runs while drawing one walk.

The Retrievers return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 8 at local rival Towson. The beltway battle is set to begin at 3 p.m.
