Princeton, N.J. – Senior Sophia Cologer (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) turned in an outstanding performance, placing third overall against a strong field at the Princeton Invitational at the West Windsor Fields in cool conditions on Saturday morning.
Cologer negotiated the 6k course in a time of 21:24.8, cutting five seconds off her 13th place effort from a year ago at Princeton. She finished in between a pair of Stony Brook runners, providing a preview of the America East Championships, to be held two weeks hence in Kingsville, Md.
The 2015 America East All-Academic Team and All-Conference performer has been the Retrievers' top finisher in all four meets to date and eight consecutive meets dating back to 2015.
Iona's Teghan Henderson earned medalist honors, winning the event at 21:11.4.
Cologer paced the Retrievers to a seventh-place team finish amongst 22 squads. Iona won the meet with 91 points, while Stony Brook took fourth at 121, and UMBC amassed 205.
For the third consecutive meet, senior Chelsea Vane (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) was UMBC's second-place finisher, crossing the tape in 30th position in a time of 22:14. Junior Olivia Richter (Oxford, Conn.) also posted a top-40 finish amongst the 215 competitors, clocking in at 22:22.
Senior Katelyn Callaghan (Downingtown, Pa.) and freshman Briana Roberts (Pennsauken, N.J.) rounded out the Retriever scoring, as both came in under the 23-minute mark. Calllaghan placed 62nd in a time of 22:45.1, while Roberts was 74th at 22:59.9.
UMBC will host the America East Conference Championships for the first time since 2008. The meet will take place at Jerusalem Mill in Kingsville, Md. on Saturday, October 29. All nine league members will participate in the championships.
