Bethlehem, Pa. - After a three-week layoff from competition, the UMBC women's cross country team returned to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, competing in one of the nation's largest meets, the Paul Short Run, held on Lehigh University's Goodman Campus course.
Senior Sophia Cologer (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) led the Retriever effort for the third consecutive meet, as she covered the 6k course in a time of 21:13. She place 80th overall, lowering her time from the previous meet considerably against some of the nation's top competitors.
Classmate Chelsea Vane (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) turned in a solid effort, crossing the tape in a time of 21:47, good for 148th position.
Sophomore Kelsey Ponton (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) and junior Olivia Richter (Oxford, Conn.) also finished in the top 200 (of 405 runners), placing 194th (22:07) and 197th (22:09) respectively.
Yale won the meet, edging nationally-ranked Georgetown for the top position amongst 45 squads. UMBC placed 28th overall.
UMBC gets back to action on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they compete in the Princeton Invitational.
