 Video Highlights

Baltimore, Md.-- The UMBC baseball team split the doubleheader with Hartford on Friday, losing game one 1-0 and winning game two 4-0. UMBC improves to 32-17, 14-9 AE on the year heading to the final game of the regular season. With the win, UMBC wraps the two seed in the upcoming AE Tournament.

Game One:

Hartford would get on the board first, scoring in the fourth inning on a Joe Roberti single to right-center, scoring David MacKinnon.

The Retrievers would get the leadoff man in the fifth and sixth, but each time UMBC would get caught stealing twice and three times overall in the game.

UMBC would threaten in the ninth, after a single by Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville), Vince Corbi (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) would follow up with a single of his own to put runners on first and second with only one out. Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) would move the runners over with a groundout to second, moving the game tying run to third with two outs. However, Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) would groundout to end the game.

Lachance led the offense going 3-4 with three singles and a stolen base. Starter Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) went six strong innings, giving up just one run and five hits in a loss.

Game Two:

Jake Barnes (Annandale, Va./Annandale) got the Retrievers on the board early with a double in the second to score Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan).

Starter Conrad Wozniak (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods/Frank Phillip) got into a jam in the third but gets a ground out to end the inning after putting two runners on.

Dolshun smacked a double to left field to start things in the fourth, and would later score on a Casali double. The inning would continue with a Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) single to move Casali to third. Barnes would come up and deliver the third run of the game on a sac fly that scored Casali.

Barnes would add insurance in the sixth, with a RBI double to left field to score Switalski who led off the inning with a double.

Wozniak would go the distance, picking up his third win of the year in a 4-0 UMBC victory. Conrad would go seven innings, giving up just five hits with four strikeouts.

The Retrievers and Hawks close out the series tomorrow, May 16 at noon. The game will also serve as Senior Day, with ceremonies beginning before first pitch.
