Retrievers Defeat Georgetown, 4-1 on Tuesday; Improve Win Streak to 13 Games

Baltimore, Md.-- The Retrievers defeated the Hoyas 4-1 on Tuesday behind solid pitching to move to 31-16 on the year. The win also improves their win streak to 13 games, as Anthony Gatto led the way with two RBI.

The Retrievers got on the Hoyas early, getting an RBI double from Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) that scored Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville). Freshman Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) hit the very next pitch for a single that scored Gatto to make it 2-0. Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) made it 3-0 UMBC with an RBI single of his own to score Switalski.

Gatto increased the Retriever lead with an RBI single in the second to make it 4-0 scoring Corbi.

The Hoyas got on the board in the third after a Nick Collins double down the right field line scored Beau Hall make it 4-1 in third.

Georgetown threatened in the middle innings, but each time the Retrievers got out of the jam unharmed.

UMBC shut the door on the Hoyas in the final inning as Switalski struck out two in the final stanza.

The UMBC pitching staff combined gave up just one run and five hits to the Hoyas on the day, striking out six batters. Gatto led the way on offense going 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Mark Esposito (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) earned his first career win, while Switalski came on for his first ever save. 

UMBC will close out the regular season with a three game set against Hartford on Friday and Saturday. Friday will be a double header starting at noon, with Saturday having a noon start. Saturday will also be Senior Day with ceremonies happening prior to the game.
