Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball split their double header with Maine on Saturday. The Retrievers fell 6-5 in game one, and won the second game 3-2 behind a masterful performance from Conrad Wozniak. The Retrievers move to 19-16, 6-8 AE on the year.

Game One:

Maine jumped on the scoreboard early, getting a run in the top half of the first. UMBC would answer, getting a pair in the bottom half. Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) had an RBI groundout, scoring Kevin Lachance (Clifton, Va./Centreville). Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) followed him up with a single to plate Vince Corbi (Medford, N.J./Shawnee).

From there, UMBC would score the next three runs over three innings to take a 5-1 lead. Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) reached on an error that allowed Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) to score. The next inning, Jake Barnes (Annandale, Va./Annandale) scored on a wild pitch, followed by a Dolshun sac fly to score Corbi.

The Black Bears however never gave up, scoring the next four runs to force extra innings. In the 12th, Maine finally broke the tie, getting an RBI double by Luke Morrill to give Maine the 6-5 win in game one.

Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) led the way offensively, going 2-5 from the plate. Dolshun knocked in a team high two RBI in the contest.

Game Two:

UMBC got their revenge in game two, as Anthony Gatto put the Retrievers ahead in the first. His RBI single score Corbi to give them a 1-0 lead. The two would link up again in the third, when a Gatto double scored Corbi to make it 2-0.

Andrew Casali would prove to be the difference maker, as his fourth inning home run to left gave UMBC a 3-1 lead. Maine would threaten in the seventh, getting a run, but Conrad Wozniak (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods/Frank Phillip) would shut the door giving UMBC a 3-2 win.

Wozniak went all seven innings in the win, giving up just five hits while striking out seven.

The Retrievers return to the diamond on Sunday, April 26 in the series finale with Maine. First pitch is set for noon at Alumni Field.
