UMBC Records 23 Hits; Win 20-5 Against Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday

Box Score

Baltimore, Md.—The UMBC baseball team recorded 23 hits in a 20-5 win against Mount St. Mary's. The win moves the Retrievers to 15-13 on the year.

The Mountaineers were the first to get on the board, putting up five runs in the first inning. The Retrievers followed suit in their half of the inning. A Mount error allowed UMBC to get on the board. Vince Corbi (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) laced a double, scoring Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), making it 5-3. Corbi would score after a pair of wild pitches, cutting the deficit to just one at 5-4.

Hunter Dolshun would tie the game in the second, with his single that score Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill). They added four more in the inning to take a 9-5 lead.

The Retrievers would add to their lead in the fifth, scoring on a Casali single.

Corbi started a ten run seventh inning to pull ahead for good. Corbi doubled to score two runs, followed up by a Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va./TC Williams) double that scored another two runs, making it 14-5 Retrievers. Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) then came up and ripped an RBI single to make it 15-5. The hits kept on coming as Naumann, Corbi, and Brady Zinda (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton) each got RBI hits to extend the lead to 20-5.

That would be more than enough for Denis Mikush (Burke, Va./Robinson) who came in and struck out five of the six batters he faced to close out the game.

Corbi led the charge on offense, going 4-5 with seven RBI. He was one of eight Retrievers to record multiple hits in the contest.

UMBC is back on the diamond on Saturday and Sunday, when they travel to UMass Lowell for a three game set. The two sides will play a double header on Saturday starting at noon, and a single game on Sunday at noon.

DAWG BITES:

- This is the first time UMBC has scored 20 or more runs since 2002. They put up 20 against Quinnipiac in April of that year.
