Box Score 2 Stony Brook, N.Y.— The Retrievers fell in both games of the double header with Stony Brook on Saturday. The losses drop UMBC to 14-12, 4-4 AE on the year.
Game One:
The Retrievers got down early, as the Seawolves stepped on the gas from the get-go. Stony Brook put up a two spot in the second inning, thanks to a Casey Baker home run.
Stony Brook got another run in the seventh off a fielding error, and got the final five runs in the eighth to seal the deal. UMBC threatened in the seventh, as Andrew Casali singled, and later advanced on an error to put runners on second and third. However the Seawolves avoided the jam, as the Retrievers would muster three hits all game.
Joe Vanderplas got the loss, giving up just two runs over seven innings off of the home run. Tyler Honahan got the win, striking out seven batters in 6.2 innings.
Game Two:
UMBC's bats awoke in the second game, as the Retrievers four runs in the third inning. Jamie Switalski smacked a solo home run to left field, giving UMBC the 1-0 early lead. Nick Naumann followed that up with a double that scored Kevin Lachance and Jake Barnes.
The Seawolves would respond with a run of their own in the third, off an RBI single.
UMBC would add to their total with a scarifice fly by Naumann in the seventh to win 5-1.
However, Stony Brook would get the last laugh as they scored four in the seventh to force extra innings. The Seawolves got the win on a walk-off single in the eighth to take the game 6-5.
Conrad Wozniak had a masterful outing, throwing 6.1 innings, striking out nine with one walk.
The Retrievers and Seawolves will close the series tomorrow, with a single game starting at noon.
