UMBC Has Six Game Win Streak Snapped; Fall 6-4 to George Washington

Box Score

Arlington, Va.—UMBC baseball saw their six game win streak come to an end on Tuesday with a 6-4 defeat at the hands of George Washington. The Retrievers fall to 10-10 on the year.

The Retrievers got on the board first in the second inning. Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) got on base with a fielder's choice, and would find himself on second with Jake Barnes (Annandale, Va./Annandale) at the plate. Barnes would smack a single to left to plate Dolshun and make it 1-0 UMBC early.

George Washington would find the answer in their half of the second after a pair of back to back doubles. They would take the lead with a one out in the fourth after a Retriever error and a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1. The inning would continue from there, as the Colonials added to their lead, making it 4-1 after four innings.

The Colonials added to that tally the very next inning off a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1. Then it was time for the Retriever bats to wake up.

Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) led off the inning with a single, and advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher. Reigning America East Co-Player of the Week Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) got his seventh RBI in four games with a double down the left field line. Barnes followed suit, hitting a single to left to plate Gatto, making it 5-3. Kevin Lachance made it a one run game after his single to right scored Connor Hax (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara).

George Washington would get a run back, thanks to a single by Andrew Selby to make it 6-4 after six innings.

Barnes would lead off the ninth with a single to left, but that would be all as they fall 6-4 on Tuesday. Barnes led the way going 3-4 with a pair of RBI's.

UMBC is back on the diamond this Friday and Saturday, April 3-4 against Saint Peter's. The three game set with the Peacocks will be played at Alumni Field with a single game on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and a double-header on Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m.
